A tiptop selection of performance horses, ranch geldings, and production offerings filled  Billings Livestock’s “Fall Special Catalog Sale” October 30.

Billings saw a rippin’ loose horse trade, a $40,000 catalog high, 642 head of horses, and a strong market in all divisions.

Good horses sell and people come to get them both on premise and online and the top five averaged $23,000, top ten  at $18,190; Top 20 brought 13,972; Top 50 at $9,643, and the top 100 averaged $7,233.

Oh those loose horses!!  The loose division continued it’s frenzy in front of a full sale crowd as the top loose horse – no rider, no speeches, no guarantees – sold as is, where is, how is – brought $7,200.

Quite incredible, 23 head brought $3,000 or better with 11 over $4,000 and four at $5,000  plus, 96 head brought $1,700 and up. 

Loose averages include the top five at $5,540; top 20 at $4,350, top 50 at $3,340 and the top 100 averaged $2,657.

October’s Number One – Hip 175X “PK Smart Peppy Jewel” a 2015 AQHA Palomino Gelding x Smart Little 007 x Genuine 007 and out of a Dry Doc mare offered by Henry Schellenberg, Gronid, Saskatchewan, Canada previewed both heading and heeling, had been trail ridden extensively, used for riding lessons, and was the complete yellow package of handsome, talented and gentle.

He brought $40,000 and sold to Nancy Gooding, Cherry Hills, CO.

Mimi Tate, Sheridan, WY offered Hip 90 “TS Big Guns” a 2016 AQHA Red Dun Gelding sired by TS Big Shot x Genuine Hombre and out of a Figure Four Chex bred dam that came quiet, gentle, ridden outside, and was the perfect gentleman.

The 15.2 hand, 1250 pound gelding brought $14,200.

Production Offerings included North Country Quarter Horses, Fort Benton, MT who offered 13 head of 2021 foals in the Showcase Internet Session  – allowing both on premise and online bidding  – and averaged $3,529.

Billings Livestock’s next sale event is set for November 26-27  and will be the final on premise sale of 2021 for Billings Livestock.
